Therapy

I work with a combination of therapies including arts therapy, nature-based therapy and lifespan integration. Working across these modalities offers a rich and supportive experience.

Being in natural environments offers not only a place to be to engage in therapy sessions, but also provides a dimension to therapy that can enhance and enrich your experience. I work in a way that encourages engaging with the living world as an active participant to the therapy process.

Our senses are heightened in places of nature and this has a beneficial effect to our connection to ourselves, as well as to the living world we exist in. Being in nature has a regulatory effect on our nervous system (especially our autonomic nervous system) and this can make integrating difficult feelings or past experiences feel easier and lighter.

Taking ourselves into nature naturally slows down our pace and allows us to be more attuned. We pay more attention to our embodied experience, and by mindfully focusing on our experience, we start to turn our attention to our internal/external relationship.

At the core of the nature-based therapy I offer is the intention to bring our relationship with the living world to the centre of our focus. How we experience the natural world - our nature relatedness - has an impact on how we live our lives. Our health, on all levels, benefits enormously from our being in relationship with nature, offering greater resilience, better emotional regulation, lower blood pressure, less occurrences of depression and anxiety, and increases our capacity for social engagement.

Bringing our relationship with nature into our therapy process offers a space for the ecological anxiety that, in my opinion, is being felt by each of us, whether we are consciously aware or not. I hope that by fostering a sense of belonging to the earth we will become better 'earth stewards', a vital collective role for us in this age we find ourselves living in.

I combine the focus on our nature-relatedness with creative arts therapy and lifespan integration therapy to support your individual needs and to integrate past wounds. Working with our imagination and engaging with creative processes activates parts of the brain that bring greater connection to our emotional states, memories, and our sensory experience. Lifespan integration also works in an embodied way, connecting the body-mind system through the use of a timeline of memory cues.

I work outdoors come rain or shine which means we attend to our relationship with the weather as part of the whole experience, the issues that come up, and the needs of you as an individual. Certainly, therapy outdoors is not be for everyone, but if you are seeking a deeper connection to yourself and to your natural world, I warmly welcome you to consider it.
