My Approach

As a therapist and supervisor, I work from trauma-informed perspectives and focus on internal resourcing and self-nurture. The effects of traumatic experiences can develop over time into what we recognise as mental health problems. Difficulties such as depression, anxiety, sleep issues, addictions and relationship stress often find their roots in traumatic events earlier in life.

I use psycho-dynamic, developmental and relational approaches to therapy. I work with unconscious processes on relational levels, and that I believe that people have the capacity to 'actualise' their potential. Additionally, an understanding of attachment (how we experience emotional proximity/connection) accompanies all of my work. I work from a body/mind perspective supporting the healing of trauma through both the body and mind simultaneously.

Often, people seek therapy because their difficulties have become unmanageable and their symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, or relationship friction, can feel all consuming. I have a good understanding of this and seek to help people feel welcome and comfortable, being sensitive to work in a way that feels supportive and exploratory at the same time. It’s crucial that in healing emotionally painful issues, it is done without re-traumatising. I do this by paying careful attention to how you are feeling and experiencing your therapy, going at a pace that suits you.

It is important to me to offer a professional, confidential and non-judgemental approach to support my clients along their road to recovery. I respond sensitively to the needs and feelings of each person I work with, going at their pace. I see myself as a facilitator or enabler of those I work with, seeking to help them become more self aware, increasing their knowledge of what hinders them and how this happens.Together, we reflect on patterns of thinking and behaving that are detrimental them, mentally and emotionally, and through greater awareness, body/mind approaches and creative methods we seek balance, health and healing.

I find it a great privilege to help people to 're-write their script', changing their lives in the here-and-now, which means that, as time goes on, they create positive and healthy memories and experiences. Over and again, I witness people moving from feeling stuck and trapped, spending huge amounts of energy on survival strategies to feeling stronger, more solid, with a sense of calm that allows them to live in the world being themselves. Instead of our survival strategies running the show, our core-selves take charge with a sense of authority that is firm, yet compassionate and fair.

As an Arts Therapist and Health Professional, I am a member of the British Association of Dramatherapists and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, registration number: AS06278. I am therefore bound by their professional codes of conduct and ethics. Details of both organisations and their codes of conduct can be found on their websites.
